Dr. Cummings experiences in the Army, Peace Corp, ministry and teaching at regional universities have allowed her to be of service to others through an inclusive, non-judgmental, compassionate, and relational approach to counseling.
She is trained in trauma sensitive yoga and meditation which influences her practice and identity as a substance use counselor - in training as they can help individuals reconnect with themselves mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually throughout the healing process. As a trained pastoral counselor, Dr. Cummings is willing and able to work with clients who want to engage in conversations about the role or relationship that their belief system as on their life and treatment.
Dr. Cummings has extensive experience as a speaker on topics such as the influence of culture and spiritual/religious beliefs on treatment outcomes, influence of culture on identity formation, LGBT in religious communities, gender and identify expression, substance addiction education, and bereavement and end-of-life care.
She certified as a mindfulness-informed clinician - level 1 (CMC-1). Dr. Monica received her doctor of ministry in pastoral care and counseling as well as her masters of divinity from Claremont School of Theology, and bachelors degree in political science from Rutgers University - Camden.
